Have you seen the headlines about a potential birth control for men in the form of immunosuppressants? This news stems from the study done back in 1996. Since my kidney transplant in May 2010, I’ve been on a protocol of Prograf and Myfortic. FYI, this is the Prograf insert. It says right there it can cause a reduced sperm count and less than optimal swimmers. If you’re relying on male contraception to prevent a pregnancy, this may not be your best option. Speaking firsthand, I know that when the doctors were trying to gauge the proper dose for me, spontaneous vomiting was a side effect of overdose. If you’re about to get intimate with a guy who spontaneously vomits in your face, I’d say that’s the end of that romantic interlude. You might even lose his number. Personally, it’s funny to me how these immunosuppressant drugs can actually cause male infertility, yet sex can boost the immune system and fertility. Biology is funny. So men, is a birth control pill worth it for you?
